Frequently Asked Questions
Can we meet our meat?
Of course you can! You can pick out your calf by hand (or photo) if you would like. If you are interested is getting photos of your “meat” periodically then please let us know. We would be more than happy to send progress updates.
How does the process work?
We typically begin weaning calves around eight months of age. At this point they are big enough to be away from their moms, and boy are their mothers glad for it! Once the calves are separated, they will all be moved to a different pasture where they can be teenagers, they will have unlimited access to fresh green grass and of course, water.
Additionally, in the beginning, our calves are given a high protein plant based feed, which helps them grow to their fullest potential. For the last few months the calves are given a sweeter feed to help aid in the marbling of meat and also give the meat a more well-rounded taste.
How much meat will my calf yield?
Once the carcass is cut into the final products you will receive on average 50% of the live weight in retail cuts of your choice.
I am unsure of which cut options I am interested in, is there a list that I can look at?
Of course! Below you should see a retail beef cut list, you can click on it for a more clear image. Many butchers have a “house cut” typically it is a variety of cuts that people tend to order the most, or you can always pick and choose what works best for you and your family.
